Grilled Pizza

One of my favorite parts of summer is the grill.. you might think because the food is so delicious (which is true) but it’s really because my husband does the cooking and the clean up is so easy! It’s a great combination that I appreciate dearly. Recently hubby decided to expand his grilling abilities from meats and vegetables to homemade pizza. It was life changing.. some of the best pizza I’ve ever eaten and only takes approximately 10 minutes to make! You have to try this!

It. Is. So. Good.

The crust comes out soft with just a little bit of crunch, the toppings are simple and the fresh basil makes this the perfect summer dinner. Okay, now let’s get started.

While you’re prepping the pizza, preheat your grill. We put all burners on high to get the grill around 500-600 degrees Fahrenheit.

make the dough

To start, you need pizza dough. If you have the time and inclination (and can find yeast during this ridiculous pandemic), definitely make your own but, if not, store bought dough works just as good. Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the dough to your desired thickness. We like ours not too thick but also not too thin.. Hubby rolled our dough to about half an inch thick. The key to rolling dough is to allow it to get to room temperature first.. much less springy .

Once you have your dough rolled out, transfer to a sheet pan.

get to cooking

Gather all of your ingredients together and bring them to the grill with you.. this pizza cooks fast!

Lightly brush the grill with olive oil and transfer your pizza dough directly to the grill. Cook for approximately 90 seconds. Use a fork or knife to pop any air bubbles. PAY ATTENTION or your pizza will burn!

Next, transfer your partially cooked dough back to your sheet pan and flip so the cooked side is up.

and finally, add your toppings

Seasoned the cooked side of your dough to taste with salt, pepper, garlic powder and dried basil. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce evenly over the dough and top with mozzarella cheese.

Brush the grill with more olive oil and transfer your pizza back, uncooked side down. Cook for approximately 60 seconds or until the cheese is melted.
